Concord Rangers under U13 team

The new Concord u13 EJA side started back into a pre season friendly on the astroturf at James Hornsby school with the highly rated Hannakins Farm team with a talented line up. Concord dominated possession with Nathan in goal not having much to do, in the first 15 mins creating a few half chances with BaileyP finding space several times to put in some dangerous diagonal crosses that fell mainly to Ellis but the bouncy surface made it difficult to control the ball and hit the target! Romie up front was making some good runs making himself available from throw ins.. Then the game turned with hannakins finding more room in the middle and creating a few more chances one leading to a corner. The ball was swung in on the breeze into the 6yrd box and concord failed to clear before it was bundled into the net. 0-1 hannakins. The game continued and concord confidence seemed to be affected as several long clearances caused problems when concord let the ball bounce of the firm surface. the referee blew for a well urned drinks break. Players retuned and the game resumed concord seemed to be a little over run in midfield so a small change saw Owen come into center mid. The game continued with not many more chances either end until half time 0-1 hannakins. Second half saw Nathan in goal replaced by Joe, BaileyR on and Aaron moved across the CB and Ben move in front of the defence. This change seemed to give concord a more solid look dealing with the long clearances well! Romie was very busy up front hassling 3 defensive players alone! He was a handful playing as a target man just playing simple football! Aaron, Ben and Freddy coped much better and looked comfortable in defence! Midfield of jamie, owen and baileyP took back control and concord had several attacks with louis and Sam on the flanks working well!! That led to a couple of corners that sam went close to touching home at the far post and the second corner was slotted home by Owen, 1-1. At the second drinks break a few more changes introduced NathanM on the left and the full backs Max and BaileyR pushing further up concord were back in Control, and another corner swung in by BaileyP resulted in Romie heading home. 2-1 concord. Concord in blue kit continued to press with several half chances going begging, then another forceful attack saw several chances blocked by Hannakins defence but one fell nicely to Owen who slotted his second with a little deflection taking it past the keeper! The game finished 3-1 to concord. The managers were pleased with the result but it is clear there are further improvements to be worked on before the season starts!
