Tuesday 17th July Michaela White, Operations Manager of Carers Choices came along to receive a cheque for £400 to help pay for a much needed fun day out for a number of young Carers who are aged between 8 to 18. Michaela went on to explain the difficult roles these young people have in caring for a relative suffering from a physical or learning disability, mental illness and long term illness, as well as alcohol or substance misuse. Because of the role these young people play in the home they get very little time to do the normal childhood socialising with friends, including their schooling. The Young Carers organisation offers them individual help and support with the skills they need to carry out their caring roles, whilst also providing activities to help them maintain their own physical and mental well being. President Colin Maclean together with President Elect And New Generation Chair Tracy Winch and Rotarian Keith Garner presented the cheque from the Furtherwick Park Legacy Fund which is administered by the Rotary Club of Canvey Island.
